opening sequence for children of men

the Children of Men begins with the news voice on a blank screen so that it brings attention to the audience. but before this starts, there is no sound when the production company is shown because the audience would be quiet as there is silence. as soon as the story is told, there is a straight cut by suddenly changing the setting to the cafe. the angle is taken from a high angle so that we can see everyone who is in the cafe. its crowded and they are all looking in the same direction. when the angle changes to the tv news, we immediately find out that this is in the year 2027. from the very beginning in the film, there is problems going on.
there is mise-en-scene for the facial expression. when the man leaves the cafe, the camera uses the hand held technique, like as if the camera is also pushing the people to get out of the cafe. the male character is shown attention because he is the only one moving. we see the old empty buses, and we see that 2027 london is dmap, dirty and gloomy.
the camera follows the man and when he stops, the camera moves around the man so that we can see what he is doing and also see the environment he is in. when there is a sudden loud sound of the bomb, the audiences would have many different views to it and we would question the whole situation.when the girl walks out from the smoke, screaming, the audiences would be confused. we are unable to see her face because we can only see her sillouhette.
the director is grabbing the audiences attention as soon as the film begins.

notes for children of men opening

opening sequence for legally blonde

the narrative function, it engages the audience. in the opening we are able to feel what the story would be about. we are shown the introduction to the story. we immediately realise that the genre of this film would be a romcom. furthermore, the introduction to the film is done by the compression of time. also, we have 3 different shot from 3 different places. for example, when the girl is cycling outside, then the letter being written on by girls and finally, the girl in the room who we could assume that is the main character.
for the conventions displayed, the title, the colour theme of pink, the nail and the nail varnish shows the audiene the theme this film would be. it is obviously seen as a feminine film. the curly writing suits well with the theme as its quite 'girly'.
when the characters are introduced, we realise that the main character is 'Ellie' because we see her getting ready in her room and then we see the letter which says Ellie. All the characters in the opening (house) are female. we are shown the setting (which is in the house) and the different characters.
the bright day, the mise en scene of the colour pink and the setting in the mansion could be seen in diffferent viewpoints. the music is also the perfect day which shows that everything is perfect in this world. this would bring attention to the audience because we would assume that something bad is going to happen because it would be boring if everything was perfect all the time.
there are different angles used when taking the opening. there is tracking, for when the girl is on the bike. there is panning when we see the whole setting. there is close up of the different characters and on the letter, and also we see a point of view of the hand. this is seen as a utopia.
